Hemmings features “junior supercars” of the 1970s

A step above “basic transportation”

Folks are rediscovering cars from the 1970s that could be sporty without breaking the budget.

This was my era. After our West Bremerton High School (Washington State) drama club rehearsals, my friend Alexander would ask my friend Lisa and me, “May I give you ladies a lift?” Alexander drove a powder blue Dodge Dart convertible. Later Alexander had a very cool Barracuda that he took with him when he went to Cal Tech. (If you get the impression we were among the nerdy group, you would not be wrong. But some of us still had fun cars.)

Bryan McTaggart’s article How Are These Standard Cars Viewed Today Versus When They Were New? features these cars:

  • 1970-’76 Plymouth Duster
  • 1966-’67 Pontiac Tempest and LeMans (with OHC 6 Engine)
  • 1964-’69 Rambler American/AMC Rambler
  • 1970-’77 Ford Maverick
  • 1970-’77 AMC Hornet
  • 1974 Pontiac GTO

We have manuals for many of these:
